MATERIAL GIRL

At Melaka Arts and Performance Festival, Malaysia (2014), Gretel drew upon internationally recognisable pop songs from the '80s to today in the midst of a tourist market, to tread a fragile line between ecstasy and repulsion at consumer culture, our preoccupation with the superficial, and our yearning for love and connection. She performed a variation of this work for Mapping Melbourne at Federation Square, December 2015.

I acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi wurrung and neighbouring Bunurong and Boon wurrung peoples of the eastern Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the unceded lands on which I live, work and dance.
